Amended plans submitted for library redevelopment
Amended plans have been submitted for the redevelopment of the grade II-listed Burley Library site.Planning permission was previously granted on the site in March 2019 for the erection of a six-storey extension to the former library to create 60 co-living flats. The development by The Parklane Group will include communal facilities including a coworking space to enable collaboration between residents and local businesses and community groups. The new plans outline minor amendments to the internal layout and schedule of the accommodation, as well as small external changes relating primarily to the placement and the provision of additional outdoor community amenity space. The amendments are in order to better tailor the development to the co-living model. The former Burley library, based in Headingley, dates back to 1926 and was closed in February 2016 on health and safety grounds. The site has laid empty since its closure.
