Plans lodged for redevelopment of listed Leeds buildings
Plans have been lodged to redevelop a pair of listed buildings in Leeds most recently in use as a hotel and bar to create new student accommodation.Stirling Prescient has submitted full planning and listed building applications to Leeds City Council for the redevelopment of a pair of great II-listed buildings on Great George Street.The Victoria Hotel is a pub former commercial hotel on upper levels. The Shenanigans pub was formerly two separate buildings – a Masonic Hall and the ‘Central Tower’.Planning permission is sought for the partial demolition of the existing buildings and a new rear extension to Shenanigans extending to seven storeys.A total of 67 studio student rooms would be created through the conversion of the existing buildings and the proposed new floorspace.Permission is sought for the change of use of the ground and first floor of Shenanigans to allow flexible commercial (Class E) and drinking establishment (Sui Generis) use.Parts of the south elevation to Great George Street would be reinstated to the original 1903 design through shopfront alterations, removing more recent works.The application also proposes alternative forms of accommodation, such as aparthotel, outside of the education calendar.The project team comprises seven Architecture, Quod, Asset Capital, Roscoe, Hydrock Consultant Engineers, Andrew Moseley Associates, MZA Acoustics, WYG, RDF Ecology and PWC Building Control Service.
