Plans submitted for major housing development
Outline plans have been submitted for a major Durham development that would create more than 1,500 homes, alongside a new primary school, local community centre and park. The application from Co. Durham Land, support by Lichfields, proposes about 1,550 homes at Sniperley park which is located North West of Durham city. The site comprises approximately 299 acres of mainly agricultural fields, currently in use for arable farming with some pasture, but permission is also sought for the demolition of two farm buildings on site. The development looks to make a substantial contribution to the housing growth targets across the County Durham local authority area. There are also plans for 25 per cent of the homes being affordable housing options, with a variety of house sizes being delivered as well as a 62 acre park with playing fields and community woodlands connected by a network of footpaths and cycleways.Sniperley park is also located close to a park and ride with easy access to Durham railway station.
