Prominent office block lined up demolition
A large former office block on The Kingsway in Swansea has been earmarked for demolition in a move which would make way for a new development.Ty Gwalia – at 7-13 The Kingsway – has been vacant for a significant period of time and, according to the applicant EstateWays, is no longer fit for purpose and there are no industrial uses which could be accommodated in the building. The demolition, however, will enable the land owner to realise an ambition to re-develop the site, with a mixed-use development in the works.A site next to Ty Gwalia has been redeveloped into a large scale student development with commercial uses at ground floor level. The former Oceana nightclub site at 71/72 The Kingsway, meanwhile, is being turned into a major new office development.
