The proposed transformation of the former Magnet Leisure Centre site in Maidenhead into a residential scheme of almost 450 homes looks set to move ahead next week. The facility on St Clouds Way closed in the autumn 2020 and already has a separate consent to be demolished. It is a typical ‘big box’ commercial building between two and three storeys in height.Lined up are five buildings comprising 434 apartments, with 87 of these being affordable. The majority of these – 252 – would be two-bedroom apartments. There would also be 346 car parking spaces and 455 cycling spaces. It is anticipated that the development would produce employment for an average of 213 workers per month over the 66-month construction period from February 2022 to August 2027.In addition, further indirect employment and economic benefits would come forward as a result of the spin-off and multiplier effects. The authority’s planning committee will meet on 15 December, with a recommendation for approval.
