£35m plans for Net Zero carbon building
The first steps to realise Liverpool’s inaugural operational Net Zero £35m carbon building, which could create hundreds of jobs, will be taken next week.To be called HEMISPHERE, the proposed building will feature 116,000 sq ft of grade A office space for health, education, science and tech occupiers. As many as 800 jobs could be created from HEMISPHERE in the knowledge sector, while it aims to support up to 100 apprenticeships during its construction phase. The eco-friendly asset will be brougt forward by Sciontec, the KQ Liverpool spin-out development company, which is looking to establish similar design credentials as The Spine.A report to Liverpool City Council’s cabinet is recommending the authority enter into an agreement with Sciontec Developments Ltd.It will pave the way for the next landmark building on Paddington Village, in the heart of the Knowledge Quarter Liverpool Innovation District. The scheme is seen as critical to the city’s recovery by encouraging job creation in the health, science, research and education sectors. It will also be subject to an independent evaluation of the plot of land before a 150-year lease is granted to Sciontec.Depending on cabinet approval, the next step after the agreement is entered into would be for a planning application to be submitted in mid-2022. The expectation is that HEMISPHERE’S construction would begin later that year and be completed in late 2024.
