Former Sainsburys site earmarked for homes
A former Sainsbury’s site in Stockport town centre is the subject of plans for a build to rent led residential development.Armstone Ventures has submitted a planning application for the 3.28 acre plot, situated on Warren Street close to the historic Market Place and Underbanks. The land was purchased by Amstone in March 2021.Architect Leach Rhodes Walker has drawn up a plan for a scheme of 563 homes. There will be a mix of one, two and three bedroom apartments and town houses together with a large communal garden and surrounding greenspaces.Amstone’s ambition is to transform this former supermarket and car park into a vibrant new residential community. The development aims to increase housing choices in the town centre, regenerate a key vacant site and create new connections to the adjacent River Goyt.Once plans have been approved, the scheme could start late 2022.Amstone’s professional team on the Stockport BTR project are Leach Rhodes Walker (architect), Deloitte (planning consultant), Layers.Studio (landscape architect) and Cumming Group (costs consultant).
