Plans submitted by manufacturer for major job creating expansion

A Lancashire-based pet food, healthcare and accessories manufacturer has submitted plans for a major expansion, which would create dozens of new jobs. Pets Choice has submitted a planning application for a new warehouse, industrial unit and shop at their Lower Philips Road base on the Whitebirk Industrial Estate in Blackburn.Founded in 1987 it supplies brands dating back to the 19th century including Davies Dog Food, which begun production in 1881 and Bob Martin, founded in the 1890s.The proposed expansion follows the recent acquisition of The Hatchwell Company, also based in Blackburn.It will allow the company to further enhance their manufacturing capabilities in the region and anticipates the creation of 60 new jobs.The company have grown from strength to strength in recent years. It follows significant growth of their owned brands, increased private label manufacturing and a number of acquisitions bringing their portfolio of brands to 14.It supplies partners in the grocery, independent, and pet speciality sectors with high-quality products in a variety of formats.Their UK manufacturing facilities and warehousing facility mean product quality is controlled from the beginning to the end of the product journey.The application seeks planning permission for a new 120,000 sq ft warehouse with three-storey offices in addition to a new access road.This will support their ambitions to be more sustainable, reducing transport of their products and subsequently reduce their carbon dioxide emissions.
