Major homes redevelopment plans set for approval
A redevelopment of a Manchester city site into more than 200 homes looks set to progress when city planning officers meet next week. Featuring two blocks of 13 and 11 storeys, Portwood Developments latest scheme would comprise 223 one and two-bedroom apartments and 14 duplex townhouses. Ground floor commercial uses and public realm would also be created.The plans would see the removal of 80 parking spaces, with 35 parking spaces to be fitted with an EV charging point. The number of cycle spaces proposed is 237.Vehicular access to the main car park would be via Gould Street, and the homes would be energy efficient resulting in a low carbon development.The 1.2-acre site falls within the 390-acre Victoria North masterplan and close to the Marble Arch pub. It will see the area transformed through the creation of 15,000 homes, place making and infrastructure A first phase of 756 homes is taking place at Angel Meadow and planning permission exists for 415 homes at North View and 634 at Victoria Riverside.Manchester City Council planning officers have recommended the application for approval ahead of a meeting on 20 January.
