The Liverpool City Region Combined Authority is in the early stages of developing plans for a new station to replace St James Station, which closed in 1917 as a cost-cutting measure in the war effort. The site on the corner of Park Road and Parliament Street has been redeveloped in the century since, but Merseytravel has recently purchased the land adjacent to the cutting for a new station building. The station will serve the Merseyrail Northern Line, which offers services from Liverpool to Manchester, Wigan, Southport, Preston and more. The location has been chosen due to the area’s recent resurgence, which has seen investment in local residential, leisure and commercial developments. The new station would help stimulate further investment.Early proposals for the station design can be seen in the pictures above and the video below. While Merseytravel carries out work to make detailed designs, it has opened the door to public views on what the station should be called. The three options are Liverpool Riverside, Liverpool Parliament Street and Liverpool Baltic. Cast your vote here.As part of that, we’d love to hear your views on what we should call this new station. This area has been one of the region’s success stories in recent years, transforming itself from a left behind area into a vibrant, thriving place to live work and socialise. We think that this new station helps continue that renaissance.”
