Go ahead for new industrial units
Revised plans to create 39 hybrid industrial units in North Shields have been backed by the council. The proposal by Mandale Construction earmarks the former Motorhog site at Wallsend Road, which is located close to the highway network and within the A19 economic corridor, for the development. As part of the scheme, all existing buildings at the site will be demolished to make way for the new units. The development will include one-storey and two-storey units with a number having offices and kitchens to ensure a variety for a mix of businesses. The new plans, which were green lit by the council on Tuesday 15 February, relate to a previously granted planning application, with the changes including cycle storage, and three meter rooms to make sure that there are suitable facilities for the utilities on site. The changes also mean that the development will not encroach into the dense scrub along the southern end of the site, which separates the development from the metro line. Alongside the units, parking will be provided on-site, as well as soft landscaping and refuse stores. The construction period will also create a number of jobs and the development will support further jobs once the units, which are designed to be flexible so they will suit a number of commercial operators, are occupied.
