Newbury sports hub set for district backing
Plans for a sports hub at Newbury Rugby could soon secure approval.Full permission is sought for the construction of a single storey pavilion and social space to support a proposed artificial grass pitch.A design and access statement submitted as part of the plans noted that the strategic importance of creating a fit-for-purpose community sports ground “is significant”.Feasibility studies have been undertaken on a number of potential sites to assess their suitability as a sports ground, with the Newbury Rugby Club option having demonstrated that it is a “very practical option”.The plans were backed by West Berkshire Council’s Western Area Planning Committee in December but have now been referred to the District Committee due to the significant public interest.Permission is set to be granted when the committee meets on 2 March.
