D-Day for Hulton Park scheme
A crunch decision on transformational plans for a “world-class” international sport and healthy living destination at Hulton Park in Bolton is set to be made. The revised proposals, which go before Bolton Council’s planning committee today (24 February), would unlock £200m investment in restoring the historic estate.Bolton is down to a shortlist of just two English venues to host The Ryder Cup – one of the world’s most prestigious and popular international events – in 2031. Peel L&P’s plans would create new jobs, training opportunities and apprenticeships, bringing a social and economic impact of at least £1.6bn over the coming years. The proposals have been improved after a major community consultation exercise last year and feature the recently launched Hulton Park Community Charter.Bolton planning officers have recommended approval of the scheme ahead of a meeting this afternoon.Business, tourism and education leaders across the region have urged the committee to approve the plans.
