Durkan wins 168-home deal in Londons Park Royal
South east housing association Network Homes has signed up contractor Durkan to build 158 affordable homes near Central Middlesex Hospital in London’s Old Oak and Park Royal regeneration zone.Surplus NHS land will be transformed into a mix of flats and three-bedroom maisonettes in four new residential buildings, ranging from six to fifteen storeys. The development will be connected to Network’s existing Luma development, which houses many NHS staff, creating a large communal garden for all residents to enjoy. The historic former refectory building, once part of a Victorian workhouse, will be retained and fully refurbished.Designed by architect Haworth Tomkins, the development is also designed to minimise energy consumption and be highly sustainable. Solar panels, air source heat pumps and low energy LED lighting throughout have all been incorporated into the scheme.Buildings feature highly insulated external envelopes to minimise heat loss, helping the development to surpass the carbon reduction targets set for new homes by the Greater London Authority.
