New plans for historic South Yorkshire mill
New plans have been lodged for the redevelopment of a historic South Yorkshire mill to create new homes.A full planning application has been submitted to Doncaster Council by TIRTLR 10 Ltd, supported by ELG Planning, for the conversion of Coltran Mill, as well as the construction of new houses. The building, located on the banks of the River Don, is the former Barnsley British Cooperative Society flour mill. It was most recently occupied by steel products manufacturer Coltran Products but has been unused since 2012.Coltran Mill is not listed but is considered to be a local landmark.Planning permission is sought for the conversion of the mill building to create 60 apartments, as well as the construction of 26 new-build homes. The new-build element will comprise three-bedroom terraced housing. The plans also include associated landscaping and parking.Plans were originally submitted in 2007 for the conversion of the main mill building and construction of several apartment blocks, providing a total of 132 units. This scheme was subsequently amended to propose the demolition of all the mill buildings and development of 43 homes. The council’s planning committee resolved to approve the amended application. However, no legal agreement was entered into and the therefore the application was disposed of in 2014.
