Green light for 228-home development in Kirkintilloch
CALA Homes (West) has secured planning consent for the build of a new housing development in Kirkintilloch. It will bring a total of 228 homes – including 160 private properties ranging from one-bedroom cottage flats, three-bedroom terraced and semi-detached homes to five-bedroom villas – at the site in Fauldhead. The remaining 68 plots will be allocated to deliver ‘much-needed’ affordable homes which are to be developed in partnership with Kirkintilloch-based Hillhead Housing Association.Recognising the benefits of the outdoors to the mental health and wellbeing of local communities, Cala has prioritised green space throughout the site. It will establish three new ponds, plant hundreds of new trees and over 4,000 sqm of hedgerow planting that complements the character of the surrounding area. The development is located adjacent to Woodilee Village and encourages active travel through a network of new footpaths. CALA said this includes providing the ‘missing link’ between the Woodilee Village South footpath and the Luggie Water footpath, which supports healthy lifestyle choices.
