Plans for a mixed-use development on part of a historic 18-hole golf course in Cornwall have been recommended for approval.A plot at Gillyflower Farm on Cott Road, Lostwithiel, is the subject of the application.Lined up are an agronomy hub – including a small retail unit, restaurant, exhibition spaces and cookery school – as well as 19 holiday units, a golf reception and parking. The course on which part of the application site sits was in existence for more than 30 years but activity has now ceased on this portion. The proposed agronomy hub would provide a facility for the research and growing of heritage fruit and vegetables, as well as the exploration of agronomy and sustainable practices. This would include research into soil health and productivity.Gillyflower is proposing to partner with Exeter University’s Centre for Rural Policy Research to develop elements of the rural economy and classes that sit within the Framework. It is proposed that the university would use the site as an extension for its Exeter Food Network and Food Studies programme. The application is set to go before Cornwall Council’s planning committee on 14 April, with a recommendation for approval.
