Hundreds of homes proposed for outskirts of Harrogate
Plans have been lodged for a development of almost 800 new homes, a primary school and local centre on the outskirts of Harrogate.Anwyl Land and Redrow Homes have submitted an application to Harrogate Borough Council for residential-led development on land at Windmill Farm, Otley Road.The 103-acre site is located to the western fringe of Harrogate, and currently comprises pasture and grassland. It is allocated for housing in the Harrogate District Local Plan.The hybrid application seeks approval for a development of 770 new homes, with 40 per cent affordable housing provision.This element of the scheme also includes public open space, a multi-use games area, play area, landscaping and infrastructure.The application also seeks outline consent for a two-form entry primary school, a local centre comprising a convenience store, and provision for 40 self-build residential plots.It has been estimated that the scheme would support 226 direct construction jobs, as well as 342 indirect roles. It would have a construction value of about £96m.Once compete, the development would generate an estimated £16m of annual resident expenditure in local economy.The project team includes Johnson Mowat, QAD, Stroma Built Environment, Smeeden Foreman, Map Archaeological Practice, FAS Heritage, Egorum, LA Environmental Consultant, Curtins, Sirius and Vectos.
