Hundreds of County Durham homes set for green light
Plans to build hundreds of homes in County Durham look set to be backed by the council.Miller Homes (North East) is behind an application for 288 houses on land North of Delves Lane in Consett.The 43.6-acre site comprises three agricultural fields and additional land.The application, which seeks permission for slightly less homes than the original 299 proposed, includes a mix of three-four-and-five-bedroom bungalows and homes in a range of detached, demi-detached and terraced options.Ten per cent of the properties will be affordable housing – all of which will be bungalows to provide older person provision.The scheme also includes 6.2 acres of managed public open space, and 6.9 acres of parks and recreation grounds available for everyone in the community to use.A report, which will go before Durham County Council on Tuesday 3 April, outlines how the development will provide the direct employment of 892 people and provide 9 apprentices, graduates or trainee jobs.The application will go before the planning committee with the recommendation for approval.
