26-storey tower plans being drawn up
Plans are in the pipeline to build a 26-storey residential tower at a former Vauxhall garage in Eccles. The proposal concerns the comprehensive redevelopment of the Albert Street site to build 260 apartments and 1,938 sq ft of commercial floorspace on the ground floor.A new access would also be created off Peel Street and 45 parking spaces provided. The residential accommodation would comprise of one, two and three-bed accommodation.A request for screening opinion for the scheme has been submitted to Salford City Council, with Silverlane Developments and Iceni Projects working on the development.A planning document said: “The development would be beneficial to the area in terms of local jobs and worker expenditure.”The proposal would provide additional housing into the area and enhance connectivity to this side of Eccles, and the new resident population would generate additional local spending.”However, additional demand would be placed on the local social and community infrastructure. It is possible financial obligations that might be agreed as part of the planning application could assist with this.”It added: “The development is unlikely to be of more than local importance. The massing of the scheme and potential impacts on visual and residential amenity would not contribute to the need for an Environmental Impact Assessment.”
