Industrial scheme approved for former Rolls-Royce site
A major industrial development aiming to create jobs in Wolverhampton has been approved for a site formerly owned by manufacturing giant Rolls-Royce.KMN Investments Ltd sought the go-ahead from City of Wolverhampton Council to redevelop land which used to be part of the wider Rolls Royce estate east of Sunnyside on Taylor Road. The approximately 10.6-acre parcel of land was previously utilised as a sports ground. The proposals will create a split site with a mixture of industrial units, with one main facility being separate from the others and retained for use by an affiliated company of the applicant, Drywall Steel Sections LTD.The main unit, which will provide 39,773 sq ft of floorspace, includes a concrete service yard and external storage, along with an area for car parking.A series of 15 starter units will also be built, which are expected to be leased to local businesses by the applicant.A statement filed with the council on behalf of the applicant said: “The site is currently vacant, allocated for employment use and in need of regeneration, which will benefit visually and tie into the surrounding area better from redevelopment and bring/generate new jobs to the area.”The site is located on an existing industrial/business estate, with good public transport links and vehicular access routes due to this.”From inception, the project vision has been to create a contemporary, high-quality industrial scheme, including various sizes of starter units, with excellent design and sustainability credentials.”The council has now approved the project, subject to conditions.
