Former industrial site earmarked for residential scheme
A former industrial site in Derbyshire has been earmarked for the creation of homes for over 55s.Cerda Planning is seeking outline approval on behalf of Derbyshire County Council to redevelop land off Derwent Street in Belper. The site was previously in use for industrial purposes and occupied by the former Thornton’s company. The main factory building was located in an area now occupied in part by a care home, library, shared car park and public space.Plans comprise the construction of 60 residences to be used as supported living accommodation for working adults in the over 55 age group, extra care living for older people over 55 where the level of care is not intensive, or age-appropriate housing for people over 55.A statement lodged with Amber Valley Borough Council on behalf of the applicant said: “The proposed redevelopment of the site for its intended purposes would have minimal impact upon highway safety and capacity and is located in a highly sustainable location in the town centre. The redevelopment would also have no implications upon any matters of ecological interest.”These proposals are considered to accord with the relevant policies of the development plan.”
