Green light recommendation for 1,500-job scheme

Outline plans for employment floorspace of up to one million sq ft in Cheshire, which would create more than 1,500 jobs, has been recommended for approval.Land off Radway Green Road, Radway Green, Alsager, has been earmarked for the scheme.The project would facilitate the aim of the Radway Green Extension by providing up to 62 acres of commercial development. Detailed approval of means of access at Radway Green Road is also sought.The application site is situated to the south of Radway Green Road and formerly housed two large industrial buildings. These belonged to BAE Systems and have now all been demolished. To the immediate north is the earlier phase for Radway Green Business Park.Permission has been granted for similar commercial developments on sites to the north of this application site, these being at Radway Green and Radway Green North.The application said full-time 1,500 jobs are envisaged to be created from the scheme.A recommendation has been made in a council report for the application to be delegated to the head of planning in consultation with the chair of strategic planning board to approve. This is subject to a section 106 agreement to secure ecological and highway improvements.”The development of the site would provide a number of economic benefits in terms of job creation and during the construction phase of the development,” the report added.”The proposal is therefore found to be economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.”
