A disused Plymouth City Council depot is set to make way for a new care facility. The Outland Road site on the fringes of Central Park was once the home of the authority’s parks department but is now lying empty.Following a delegated decision to award a demolition contract, the old buildings will be flattened in the autumn to make way for a purpose-built space for some of Plymouth’s most vulnerable adults to work, rest and play. The new centre will combine specialist emergency and planned respite/day care services for people with complex physical and learning disabilities. The authority had previously invested £10m to kick-start the scheme, which will provide a range of en-suite bedrooms and flats specifically designed to maximise independence and allow support for adults with a wide range disabilities.Councillor Dr John Mahony, cabinet member for health and social care, said: “The demolition of the old depot is an important milestone on our journey to this fantastic new facility.”Facilities like this are so badly needed and to be able to build right next to Central Park, one of Plymouth’s most loved places, is really special, with clients able to access the park facilities.”
