Plans in for Nottinghamshire solar farm
A solar farm with the potential to power thousands of homes has been proposed for agricultural land in Nottinghamshire.Hamilton Solar is seeking the go-ahead to transform land at Hamilton Hill Farm, Cauldwell Road.Extending to about 23.4 acres, the site consists of three small to medium-sized agricultural fields. The proposed solar farm would have a capacity of approximately 7MW, using solar panels fixed to the ground using metal pipes and supporting infrastructure. It is anticipated that the scheme, which is planned to be operational for up to 30 years, would generate enough electricity to power 2,200 homes.A statement lodged with Ashfield District Council on behalf of the applicant said: “The solar farm will contribute significantly towards social sustainability by providing low cost, clean power to businesses, contributing business rates and employing local people during construction.”Economically, the regular income from the solar farm will make an important contribution to the continued viability of the farm holding, including investment in farming activities and protecting themselves during years of low agricultural yield.”
