Plans lodged for employment development at port
Plans have been lodged to develop new facilities at the Port of Immingham. The scheme is expected to support economic growth and generate job opportunities.Associated British Ports (ABP) has submitted an application to North Lincolnshire Council for development of land adjacent to the West Gate Entrance of the port. The hybrid application seeks full planning permission for 16.4 acres of hardstanding and new access, together with associated infrastructure works including drainage and landscaping. This would provide external surface level storage for freight being imported and exported through the port, and represents Phase 1 of the scheme.Outline planning permission is also sought for up to 281,000 sq ft of port related employment floorspace. This would comprise Class B2 (industrial), Class B8 (Storage and distribution) including ancillary office, and Class E(g)(i) (business)) floorspace, together with associated landscaping, infrastructure and other works.A design and access statement submitted as part of the application said: “The development seeks to provide new opportunities for businesses who are looking to establish themselves in Immingham or to expand there, including existing tenants within the port, from whom there is existing demand for expansion. It will generate local economic growth and provide significant new job opportunities.”The proposals will provide significant job opportunities with the potential to attract a variety of operators leading to many new full-time jobs for the area.”The project team includes The Harris Partnership, Montagu Evans, AECOM, Vector and DTA.
