Housebuilder extends footprint in Derby suburb
National housebuilder Bellway has begun work on a 78-home residential development in Chellaston on the outskirts of Derby. The scheme at The Meadows, off Snelsmoor Road, will include 48 properties for private sale and 30 affordable homes for social rent or shared ownership. The Meadows, along with the adjoining Holbrook Park, forms part of a wider 245-home scheme in the suburban village that was green lit by Derby City Council in May.Bellway says it has received outline planning permission for up to 800 new homes in Chellaston. As part of the planning agreement, over £9m will be provided for local services and infrastructure including £7m for a new primary school.Steve Smith, sales director at Bellway East Midlands, said: “The Meadows represents our latest contribution towards meeting the need for high-quality new housing in Chellaston. Over the past seven years, we have delivered over 280 homes at different sites in the village. By the time these two developments have been completed, that figure will have risen to more than 500.“With construction work now underway, we anticipate handing over the keys to the first completed homes at The Meadows by summer next year.”
