Tameside eyes Stalybridge homes plan
Tameside is preparing plans for more than 400 homes and commercial accommodation in Stalybridge.The council’s place and external relations relations scrutiny panel will discuss the ‘Stalybridge West opportunity’.A total of £130,000 GM Evergreen Surplus funding has been secured by the council to undertake development feasibility studies on eight sites in Stalybridge West in the control of the council and GMPF.A study completed in 2022 identified an opportunity to provide a “regeneration catalyst” with new provision of more than 400 new homes and commercial accommodationThe report said a development prospectus will now be prepared to support bringing the “indicative opportunity” to the marketThis will be followed by completion of planning and delivery strategies and undertaking of a soft market test around the development opportunity.A total of £35m has been bid for by Tameside Council from the government’s Levelling Up Fund.If approved, a total of £11.1m will be used for remediation and re-provision of existing surface car parking on brownfield land, as well as to prepare the sites for future residential development and to help facilitate further private sector investment in Stalybridge West.The Tameside meeting will take place today (20 September).
