Approval lined up for more than 200 homes
An application proposing the construction of more than 200 homes on agricultural land in Hereford has been recommended for approval ahead of a planning committee meeting next week.Taylor Wimpey is seeking outline planning permission to build 230 properties on land north and south of Grafton Lane. The application site consists of fields and extends to approximately 24.9 acres. It is intended that 35 per cent of the scheme be allocated as affordable housing.A statement filed on behalf of the applicant with Herefordshire Council – whose planning committee meets on 28 September – said: “The proposal is acceptable in relation to national guidance and the development plan and there are no material considerations which should prevent the planning application from being determined in accordance with the relevant planning policy framework.”A report for the committee added: “There would be both economic and social benefits of providing dwellings within on the edge of the city of Hereford. These include the initial boost to the economy during the construction phase, payment of the New Homes Bonus, disposable income spend from future occupiers and additional dwelling to increase housing choice including affordable houses.”Due to the number of dwellings, these benefits would be substantial. Subject to a well-planned reserved matters scheme, it is reasonable to conclude that there would be no adverse environmental impact; or if any do arise, that they would be of insufficient magnitude to outweigh the benefits of providing dwellings within a sustainable location.”
