New offices lined up for Royal William Yard
Plans to bring forward new commercial space at Royal William Yard in Plymouth have been submitted. The application concerns the site’s Boatbuilder’s Shed and Tanksmith’s Shop, which are currently used for bike and refuse storage.Proposed is transforming the pair into commercial office space, while retaining the elements that contribute to the character of the historic development. The majority of the buildings surrounding the site have already been sensitively converted to commercial and residential use during the last 20 years.”Given the significance of the Royal William Yard, any proposed additions to the facades will be kept to a minimum,” said the planning statement. “Internally the refurbishment works will take a light touch approach as taken with the previous conversion works in the Yard.”However, we aim to strike a balance between minimising the impact on the building, making it sustainable development, and providing a pleasant and functional workspace.”The application is with Plymouth City Council.
