Plans have been lodged for a multi-purpose commercial development in Scunthorpe that would support the expansion of an existing retailer and provide new business units.John Coopers Leisure Ltd is a caravan, motorhome, towbar, trailer and camping accessories business that currently operates from a site on Grange Lane North. The company, supported by keystonearchitecture, has submitted an application to North Lincolnshire Council for a development on land at on Phoenix Parkway.Planning permission is sought for multi-purpose commercial development on the site, consisting of a series of new small workshop, warehouse and sales facilities, together with a large purpose-built motorhome showroom, storage and workshop. The main motorhome building would measure about 9,580 sq ft, with the other units totalling about 15,700 sq ft across four separate buildings. The proposed development would enable John Coopers to increase the capacity of its caravan and motorhome accessory showroom, while also providing dedicated areas for bike carriers and outdoor living equipment, storage and workshops space. The four retail unit blocks would be available to let, with John Coopers targeting complementary businesses in the home, outdoor living and leisure sectors. The development has an estimated value of £10m and could support the creation of about 100 jobs.A statement accompanying the application said: “This proposal will enrich the town and the shopping experience that is currently offered, giving local people services and more choice within the local area as well as enticing clients and brands from further afield to our town. Ultimately contributing to the regeneration of Scunthorpe.”
