Go-ahead recommended for major mixed-use project
A major mixed-use development aiming to provide office space and a multi-storey car park in Liverpool is set to secure the go-ahead. The scheme is expected to create more than 200 jobs in the city.Liverpool City Council is sought planning permission to redevelop land bounded by Jamaica Street, Greenland Street and New Bird Street.A development within a building ranging from five to seven storeys in height is proposed. The seven-storey building will front onto Jamaica Street and contain predominantly office accommodation on its upper floors. The lower five-storey element would adjoin to the west, with its upper floors containing parking spaces.Ground floor commercial spaces would be located below and could include a shop, cafe, gym, medical centre, bar and hot food takeaway. The multi-storey deck car park would include 214 spaces. An existing building on the site would be demolished as part of the plans. It is anticipated that up to 234 jobs will be created from the scheme, including 100 part-time and 134 full-time.A council document published ahead of a planning committee meeting next Tuesday (11 October) added: “In conclusion, it is considered that the proposal offers a high quality, mixed use scheme that would lead to the redevelopment a brownfield site, improving the appearance of the built environment and the future offer of the Baltic and as such would be a regeneration benefit to the local area.”The scheme has been recommended to be approved, subject to conditions.
