Plans have come forward for a mixed-use development featuring a food store and drive-thru units on the site of a former school in Sheffield.Commercial Development Projects, supported by Planning Potential, has requested an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) screening opinion from Sheffield City Council for development on land off Prince of Wales Road. The 6.45-acre brownfield site currently has four semi-detached properties on its western boundary and the former Prince Edwards Primary School in the southern portion of the site. The plans propose the partial demolition of the existing buildings and construction of a food store (Use Class E), restaurant drive-thru (Use Class Sui Generis) and coffee shop with drive-thru (Use Class E).The scheme would also include car parking, landscaping, and associated works.A statement accompanying the request said: “The proposed development will give rise to beneficial socio-economic effects both during the construction and operational phases of development.”During the construction phase of the development, it will deliver direct and indirect FTE jobs in construction and suppliers within the surrounding community. The proposed development will support local employment as well as enhance choice for local residents.”Currently the former Primary School building is in use as a boxing club, gymnasium and range of indoor recreational activities.
