Police station conversion plan set to move forward
Plans to convert a former police station in Stoke into 161 student flats with associated internal facilities have been recommended for approval.Hewitt and Carr Architects is seeking full planning permission for the redevelopment of Hanley Police Station. As part of the proposal, the building will also be externally re-clad with grey and buff brick. The existing property comprises a part four-storey, part three-storey and part two-storey building which is enclosed by Bethesda Street on its eastern boundary, Ranelagh Street on its southern boundary, and Warner Street on its western boundary.Subject to a section 106 legal agreement to secure a financial contribution for health infrastructure and a suite of planning conditions, a report to be scrutinised by Stoke City Council’s planning committee this week recommends the major scheme for approval as it “seeks to bring a large, prominent dis-used building back into active use”.
