Northamptonshire land earmarked for solar farm
Agricultural land in Northamptonshire has been earmarked for a solar farm which has the potential to power thousands of homes.Elgin Energy EsCo Ltd is seeking planning permission for a period of 40 years for a 49.9MW scheme on land adjacent to Foxholes Farm on Roman Road, Titchmarsh.Proposals comprise ground mounted solar PV panels with associated infrastructure, including inverters and a substation compound, as well as fencing, security cameras and cabling. It is anticipated that the project would offset the annual electricity usage of approximately 12, 688 homes.A statement lodged with North Northamptonshire Council on behalf of the applicant said: “The development is an opportunity to provide a significant amount of low carbon renewable energy in an appropriate location.”As such, it will contribute to the council’s goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2030, as well as national and international climate change targets.”The provision of a local source of renewable energy will contribute to the ongoing effort to increase energy independence and security for the UK.”
