Agreement to bring thousands of homes to Stoke-on-Trent
Thousands of homes are set to be built in Stoke-on-Trent over the next ten years following an agreement with the government’s housing agency.Last year, Stoke-on-Trent City Council announced an agreement with Homes England which outlined a commitment to working together on a housing delivery plan for the city. Now it has been revealed that the agreement will involve a major investment into Stoke-on-Trent, with Homes England helping to unlock and support the city council and its partners to build about 3,000 properties in the next decade. The work is forecast to add approximately £400m GVA to the city’s economy. This includes the redevelopment of the former Victoria Ground site into 200 family homes, the private-rented Clayworks apartments scheme in the city centre and the launch of two sheltered housing schemes – QEII and Rialto Court, in Fenton. At the same time, plans for apartments at Goods Yard are gathering pace with piling complete and a ground floor slab in progress. Preparations are also being made at Etruscan Square, including site investigation and design works for residential units and a mobility hub with future opportunities for retail, leisure and the city’s first arena.Councillor Abi Brown, leader of Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: “Our ambition is to deliver high-quality, fit for purpose, safe and well-maintained homes for Stoke-on-Trent residents now and in the future.”We have delivered some fantastic schemes across the city over the last few years and I have no doubt that this unique partnership with Homes England will continue to boost confidence in the Stoke-on-Trent housing market, and ensure our city remains a place where people can live well at all stages of their lives.”The announcement comes as a small delegation from Stoke-on-Trent City Council attend MIPIM, the annual real estate conference in France.
