Fresh retirement living plans to advance

Plans for a retirement living scheme in Wilmslow look set to take a step forward at a meeting next week.Churchill Retirement Living is looking to demolish the existing buildings at 17 and 19 Holly Road South to make way for a three-storey apartment block which would house 34 apartments.The building would include 23 one bed apartments, ten two bed apartments and one three bed apartment, alongside communal facilities such as a resident’s lounge, coffee bar, garden area and a guest bedroom.According to the application, the homes would be sold with a lease restricting occupation to someone aged 60 years or over with a spouse of partner of at least 55 years.The development is a re-submission of a similar application which was refused in February for a trio of reasons, such as a failure to provide on-site affordable housing or open space.Committee also noted that the prior scheme did not provide sufficient information to assess the impact of the development on existing trees on site, and added that it would result in a lack of on-site parking – leading to on street parking pressure.An appeal by Churchill Retirement Living is currently live with a public inquiry scheduled for four days from the 27 June 2023.The fresh planning application, which will go before Cheshire East Council’s Northern Planning Committee on Wednesday 7 June, was submitted alongside the appeal and looks to overcome the previous issues for refusal.As such, an updated affordable housing statement and viability position has been submitted alongside new information regarding long term protection of trees and further commentary of parking requirements.The updated plans will go before committee with the recommendation for approval.
