Plans for care village on brownfield site
A care village could be developed on a brownfield site in Grimsby under new plans.DBS7 LLP, supported by Keystone Architecture, has submitted an outline planning application to North East Lincolnshire Council for development on the former YMCA site on Peaks Lane.Planning permission is sought for a residential care home of between 60 and 80 beds, independent living accommodation comprising bungalows or serviced apartments, close care accommodation and ancillary facilities. The YMCA accommodation would be converted into serviced short-term accommodation, for contract workers, staff, relatives and other visitors. The development would be located adjacent to the existing medical and care services off Peaks Lane, which include a private hospital, palliative care, mental health services, children’s services and cancer care.A statement submitted as part of the application said the proposed development would “promote local economic growth in a highly sustainable, employment area, increasing job opportunities in essential health and care services”.It added: “The healthcare facilities proposed offer supportive and continued provisions adjacent to existing, established health services close by on Peaks Lane, to further meet the growing demand of the town and its aging population.”The development would see a positive redevelopment of a brownfield site within the identified development boundary of Grimsby, in a highly sustainable location, close to existing commercial provisions, housing and public transport services, whilst improving available healthcare accommodation and the biodiversity of the site.”
