First phase of consultation on Chorlton Shopping Centre site beginsImmediate neighbours and the wider community are being asked for their views on the future redevelopment of the Chorlton Shopping Centre site, in South Manchester.The first phase of community consultation began today (July 27), with One Chorlton seeking feedback informing a detailed vision for the site which will be the subject of further consultation later this year.The 3.2 acre site, owned by Greater Manchester Pension Fund, is currently home to the shopping precinct, Graeme House office block and a ground-level car park.The P J Livesey Group was appointed as preferred developer in spring and is now working on the best options for the site alongside architects Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.P J Livesey managing director, Georgina Lynch, said: “Chorlton has its own unique character and energy and we want to understand local ambitions for the area and what we should be considering as we work on the masterplan.“Building on the site’s potential, we want to create a neighbourhood that responds to how people live, work, shop and spend time today with energy-efficient new homes, new shops and outdoor spaces where people can spend time.”She added: “We want to engage as widely as possible with all sections of the community and look forward to the first conversations about One Chorlton with further consultation, including in-person events, planned for later this year as plans for the site evolve.”Key proposals include a mix of up to 200 new homes for owner occupiers, including affordable properties, modern retail spaces designed to serve the local community and create a thriving retail hub, together with open spaces and places to meet.Georgina said: “As well as listening to local people we want to work with them throughout this process and believe the project will deliver an economic boost to Chorlton during construction and beyond.”The One Chorlton consultation will run until Monday, August 21, and people can add to the conversation in a number of ways:• In writing – Freepost – HAVE YOUR SAY• Questionnaire – being sent direct to many households and available to pick up at Chorlton Library or a copy can be requested by calling Freephone 0800 680 1095 or e-mailing enquiries@onechorlton.co.uk• People can get updates on One Chorlton via social media onInstrgam @onechorlton and on Facebook facebook.com/onechorlton
