Committee to decide on Plymouth scheme
Plans that form part of the first phase of work on Plymouth’s proposed National Marine Park are set to go before committee.The application relates to the Garden Battery, a grade II-listed artillery battery situated on the Mount Edgecumbe Country Park.The park is jointly owned by Plymouth City Council and Cornwall Council, with the proposed development is in support of the former’s Heritage Lottery Fund bid for the National Marine Park, specifically phase one.This phase also includes proposals within Plymouth at Tinside Pool and Mount Batten.Lined up is the refurbishment and alterations to the Garden Battery to facilitate public access and provide “interpretation about the heritage significance of coastal defences and the history of Plymouth Sound”.Lined up is reconfiguring the northern entrance, creating a new southern entrance, constructing doors and staircases, and soft landscaping, among other work.The application is set to go before Cornwall Council’s planning committee on 4 September with a recommendation for approval.
