An application proposing the conversion of a historic former library building to provide new homes has been recommended for approval.GR8Space has brought forward proposals to transform a grade II-listed building which was constructed in the 1920s for the Lichfield Friary Grammar School. The school was built on the site of a 13th century friary, part of which is a scheduled ancient monument. The proposal comprises internal modifications and the demolition of later extensions to provide two one-bed and 19 two-bed apartments.A total of 11 car parking spaces would be provided.A report for Lichfield District Council’s planning committee – which meets on 4 September – said: “In principle, the redevelopment of the existing, vacant, grade II-listed former library building for residential purposes is supported in terms of housing policies and would ensure that the building is put to a viable use, which will secure its future.”
