Derbyshire site earmarked for solar farm
Plans have been submitted for the development of a solar farm in Derbyshire which has the potential to power thousands of homes.Elgin Energy Esco Ltd is seeking planning permission for a development on land to the south of Frithwood Farm, Elmton. The site comprises predominantly arable farmland.Whaley Solar Farm would have an export capacity of 25 MW of renewable energy, generating enough electricity to meet the annual demand of approximately 7,000 average family homes.A planning statement said: “The proposed Whaley Solar Farm will play an important role in supporting Bolsover District Council in meeting their climate change commitments and will make a valuable contribution to cutting greenhouse gas emissions.”The proposed development’s significant environmental benefits can be achieved in accordance with NPPF and Development Plan policies for renewable energy schemes. The proposal would also support the security of the UK electricity supply and the health of the local rural economy.”
