Former Derby cafe gets new lease of life with housing plansPlans are in place to transform the former Acropolis cafe in Derby’s Market Place into an eight-bedroom shared accommodation.A planning application has been sent to Derby City Council for the conversion into a shared accommodation, while the ground and first floors will continue to serve as commercial spaces. The application is for 35-37 Market Place, with the Grade II-listed properties at numbers 35 and 36 also requiring listed planning consent.Due to restricted vehicle access, the plan is to have four bike-hanging spots, with the council’s highways department reviewing the application and raising no objections. The city council will review the application, and the decision should be made in the next two to three months. The Acropolis Cafe, one of the city’s oldest cafes, closed in July after being in business for 47 years. It was known for its breakfasts and home-cooked meals and was a favourite among shoppers.
