Apartments plan for former Neath working mens club site
The site of a former working men’s club in Neath is being lined up for a new housing development.Pobl Group, in collaboration with Castell Group and Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, is behind the scheme at the old Neath Working Men’s Club.The much-loved ‘Workies’ has roots dating back to at least the 1960s and was a cornerstone of community life in the town for decades.Lined up is the demolition of the Wind Street club and the construction of 36 homes, including 32 one-bedroom apartments and four two-bedded apartments. The units will all be designated for social rent.The project has been supported by Social Housing Grant funding from Welsh Government.Rosy Steel, project manager for Pobl Group, said: “This project represents our commitment to delivering practical solutions, and revitalizing the former Neath Working Men’s Club is not just about building houses, our focus is the ongoing regeneration of Neath town centre.”Dorian Payne, Castell Group managing director, said: “We are looking forward to working with Pobl on this new social housing project in Neath. The former workingman’s club will be transformed by our team into high-quality, affordable, and low-carbon housing for the area.”All homes are designed to achieve an EPC A rating, incorporating sustainable building practices and advanced technologies to meet Welsh Government standards.Contracts for the development were signed on 6 October. The project is set to be completed within 112 weeks.
