895,000 sq ft of sheds proposed for former motor racing parkPlans have been submitted by Birmingham City Council to transform the former Birmingham Wheels Park into more than 895,000 sq ft of industrial and commercial space.The overall vision for ‘The Wheels Site and Environs’ scheme is to deliver up to 1 million sq ft of floor space and create up to 3,000 jobs and training opportunities as part of the Bordesley Park Area Action Plan.Plans designed by Stephen George + Partners propose four development zones on site which will contain several buildings in each.The 895,000 sq ft area would be broken down into:Birmingham Wheels Park shut down in 2021 after operating on the council-owned land for nearly 40 years and the site has been vacant ever since. The closure came after the council secured £17m from the government’s Levelling Up Fund to regenerate the site.The application is for outline planning permission to demolish all existing buildings and structures, clearing the site and creating four development platforms together with access improvements.
