Cash boost for Waverley homes
More than £17m has been allocated by Waverley Borough Council to develop 46 affordable homes. The authority met last month and approved proposals to build 26 affordable properties at Springfield in Elstead and a further 20 at Ockford Ridge in Godalming. The development team will be running drop-in consultation events in 2024 to seek views and comments from the community ahead of the submission of planning applications.Councillor Nick Palmer, Waverley Borough Council co-portfolio holder for housing (delivery), said: “I’m proud that we are one of the few local councils that remain committed to building our own social housing stock and delivering affordable homes for the residents that need them most.”Building affordable homes is about much more than constructing walls; it’s about delivering hope of a brighter future for people who would not otherwise be able to afford their own space.”These projects represent another significant financial investment by Waverley Borough Council into the provision of affordable housing in the borough, helping more people to move off the housing waiting list and into homes of their own.”
