Green light for homes on water facility site
Plans to develop more than 120 affordable homes on a site adjacent to a water treatment facility in East Yorkshire have been given the go-ahead.Keyland Developments, the property trading arm of Kelda Group and sister-company to Yorkshire Water, submitted an outline planning application to East Riding of Yorkshire Council in October 2022 for a residential development on land to the east of Scarborough Road in Bridlington.A Yorkshire Water pumping station and associated covered reservoir is located to the north-east of the site. The plans cover the construction of up to 126 homes on the site, with two-, three- and four-bedroom properties proposed. The scheme has been amended since it was first submitted and now proposes 100 per cent affordable housing. The plans also include new vehicular access from Scarborough Road and an area of public open space. The housing would be arranged along a main artery road and a series of cul-de-sacs.It has been estimated that the construction of the development could support about 211 jobs, generating gross value added (GVA) if more than £10m.The council has now granted planning permission for the development, subject to conditions, under delegated powers.A planning officer’s report accompanying the decision said: “The proposal would contribute to the Council’s housing land supply as a windfall site and would provide 100 per cent affordable housing (to be secured through a suitably word planning condition) which would assist with achieving the Council’s commitment to provide affordable housing (especially for Bridlington where there is currently a deficit).”
