Plans submitted for hundreds of homes on former school
More than 300 homes could be developed on a former school in Grimsby if recently submitted plans secure approval.Keepmoat Homes, supported by Lichfields, has submitted plans to North East Lincolnshire Council for development on the former Western School on Cambridge Road.The hybrid application seeks full planning permission for the construction of 318 homes on the site.A mixture of one-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom bungalows and two- to six-bedroom houses is proposed. Keepmoat Homes is exploring options to provide 20 per cent affordable housing.This element of the scheme also includes areas of public open space, landscaping, access, pedestrian and cycle links, and parking.Outline planning permission is also sought for a 90-bed extra care facility, to be brought forward by another party.A planning statement submitted as part of the application said: “The planning application has been subject to a public consultation and seeks to deliver a high-quality residential development that will develop this vacant, mostly brownfield site in Grimsby.”As a direct result of the development proposals, the application will deliver a number of benefits for the local community and future occupiers.”It added that the proposed development would generate “significant public benefits and represents sustainable development in social, economic and economic terms”.Outline planning permission was previously granted in 2021 for up to 297 residential units and a 90-bed extra care facility on the site.
