Apartments planned for former police station
Plans to convert a former police station in Liverpool into apartments have been lodged.Riscon Holdings wants to redevelop the former Garston police station on Heald Street into nine apartments with an office at ground floor level, which will serve its own business. The two storey detached building was constructed in 1890, but has stood vacant since 2021 after it was deemed as surplus to requirements as part of the Merseyside Police Estates Strategy .Minor external alterations are proposed as part of the scheme, including the replacement of windows, refurbished timber panelled entrance doors and the installation of conservation rooflights to the principal elevation.A planning statement submitted with the proposal said the site is “dated and constrained, with no realistic opportunity for expansion/redevelopment in the long term”.It added that the development “offers an opportunity for a change of use which will result in a more efficient use of the site”.”The proposed apartments will make a positive contribution toward the borough’s housing requirements and provide choice for the local community, whilst the proposed office will positively contribute to the quantity and variety of the council’s commercial floorspace supply.”
