Construction firm to work on landmark Sunderland building
A Hebburn-based construction firm has secured work on the landmark Culture House development, which will sit in the heart of Riverside Sunderland.Castle is supplying all mechanical, electrical and public health services to Culture House, along with installing a 538 sq ft photovoltaic system.The business was awarded the contract by construction and infrastructure services company Kier.Spanning 72,021 sq ft, the four-storey Culture House will feature exhibition, learning and community spaces, providing a vibrant, dynamic and engaging space for residents and visitors.Castle is headquartered in Hebburn and has offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Teesside. The business secured turnover of £65m in 2024 and provides services including construction, mechanical, public health, renewable and electrical engineering.Managing director Andrew Dawon said: “Castle has watched in admiration at the rapid and highly impressive regeneration taking place in Sunderland city centre. The council and stakeholders have a clear vision for the future of the city and Culture House is clearly very much part of it. We are delighted to have been awarded the contract by Kier and pleased to play our part in the transformation that is taking place.”Steve Lynn, operations director for Kier Construction North & Scotland, added: “Culture House will be a vibrant and dynamic space for local residents and visitors, and we are pleased to be working with Castle once again to deliver an exciting project that will help to transform Sunderland city centre.”
